Some people let common misconceptions about summer prevent them from enjoying this great season. But they don’t have to and here’s how:
The Sun Is Your Enemy
There is a ring of truth to this statement; too much sun exposure is not good for your skin for many different reasons, but it still has a healthy aspect. Your body needs vitamin D. It only takes up to a maximum of 10 minutes of sitting in the sun to receive your daily dose. The best time to drink in the sun is in the morning before lunchtime. This sun is strong enough to provide you with the vitamin D your body needs without being too strong or too hot.
The Beach Is the Heart of Entertainment
It’s always fun to go to the beach with friends to have a party, play a few rounds of beach volleyball, or take a dip in the water. As shocking as it may seem, you don’t have to be a beach lover or go to the beach to have fun. What? That’s right, you can have fun without stepping one foot onto the beach’s warm sand or lugging around that baggage you’d need for the beach. A pair of running shoes, a hat, water, and a pair of shades should do the trick. Hiking on a trail in the woods, exploring areas not yet touched by man, and possibly seeing wildlife you haven’t yet seen. You can enjoy time in nature while having an adventure and getting your dose of vitamin D.
Summer Is Expensive
If you travel or purchase recreational equipment that you think will entertain you and your family for more than five minutes, then, yes, summer can be expensive. But, who said you have to spend a fortune to have fun? Listen up kids: turn off the cell phones, computers, game boys and go OUTSIDE. Grab a few friends and the garden hose. Soak each other until the water is dripping from your clothes like Niagara Falls. Or, go to the nearest soccer field or baseball diamond and play a game. Listen up adults, you can do the same things and invite your friends back to the house for a BBQ, a couple of drinks, and a lot of laughs.
Camp Is a Walking Buffet for Mosquitos
Camping is an activity a lot of people enjoy doing because it’s an inexpensive way to get away. It’s a time to connect with family and friends while going on a mini adventure. Unfortunately, some campers come back covered with mosquito, black fly and other insect bites. But, you don’t have to let these annoying insects ruin your experience. Invest in a good bug repellent and wear light coloured clothing – bugs love dark colours.
The Weatherman Is Always Right
Not! Mother Nature has her unpredictable moments of being cranky. And, we end up experiencing weather conditions that weren’t forecast by the weatherman. This still shouldn’t stop you from having fun outdoors. Why stay indoors when it’s raining? It’s only water and you’re not made of sugar; you won’t melt, so why not have a little fun in the rain? But, if you’re set on staying dry and not spending hours in front of the TV, then create a rainy day activity kit for that unexpected downpour. Have a few games ready or even make up your own creative and ridiculous game that will keep you and your guests entertained.
Some quick research will help you set up a plan for unexpected travel and weather. This will help you avoid these misconceptions of summer and allow you to have a fun, relaxing and eventful summer without spending a fortune. Now, get out there and make some magical memories!
